Heron Island is perfect for kids and not just because they stay and eat for free.

Heron Island is a natural coral cay, meaning you are actually on the reef itself. Kids can spot turtles, coral and reef fish right off the beach. They can enjoy a host of interesting and educational experiences on their own or even better, join in the fun and discovery of our Junior Rangers programme.

This is no ordinary kids club! Kids enjoy hands on fun and educational activities with one of our rangers as a guide. The programme was designed in conjunction with the University of Queensland Research Station located on the island. This nurtures a sense of exploration and conservation in kids.

While the kids are off exploring one of the natural wonders of the world you can go diving, snorkelling, bird watching or just relax and immerse yourself in reef life.

Heron Island is the only Great Barrier Reef Resort located on a true coral cay. The island is famous around the world for its spectacular coral reef, its extraordinary variety of aquatic life, migrating whales, nesting turtles and as a breeding ground for an abundance of birdlife.

Restaurant facilities:

Shearwater Restaurant
Breakfast and lunch are buffet style on the deck with views of The Coral Sea. Enjoy a three-course ‘table d’hote’ menu for dinner five days a week and try an ‘Aussie BBQ’ on Tuesday nights and a selection of local seafood presented on a Seafood Buffet on Saturday nights. We also cater for special diets and special requests. Picnic hampers to enjoy anywhere on the island are a popular favourite.

Pandanus Lounge & Baillie’s Bar
Relax with a cold drink after a warm day. The complex is designed to make the most of panoramic reef views, with an outdoor terrace, a cocktail bar, entertainment lounge, dance floor and a mezzanine level library area. Open from 9.30 am till late.

*Conditions apply. Subject to availability. Offer is based on double/twin share (2 adults) in a Turtle Room. Upgrade to a Reef Room for $40 per adult per night. Kids 12 years and under stay free when using existing bedding. Available for sale until 31 March 2011 and for travel from 11 January until 31 March 2011. Additional person rates apply. Airfares and transfers are an additional cost.
