Fiji Holiday SpecialsReader Review of Plantation Island

Here's what our readers have to say about Castaway Island Resort!

We have been to Fiji twice and both time myself and my family stayed at Castaway Island. We just loved the people on the island they were so good to us and especially our kids who were between 2 & 5 years of age.

My eldest daughter loved the kids club and my youngest also used to go to kids club along with a babysitter (who is only $5 an hour). On the Wednesday night they have a pool BBQ party where all the kids and the island staff put on a performance which is then followed by a traditional Fiji feast. Yum.

We stayed in a beautiful bura and spent all our time swimming in the resort pool or the clear blue beaches. I would recommend this resort to anyone and I'm hoping to make this trip to Fiji every couple of years.

Castaway Island Fiji has got to be paradise of earth…and hey, I’m not just saying it, “Google” the place for yourself and read the reviews online.

Previously, I think it was said that 80% of people staying there, were return holiday makers. That’s got to say something. Once you have stayed at Castaway Island, you are automatically apart of the Castaway Family. Maybe that is what’s so good about this Fijian Island.

It has the traditional Fijian bures right on the beach and a food/wine menu that will knock your socks off, but it also has personality. The Fijian staff are absolutely wonderful, especially with the little ones. And an abundant of activities if you choose, for the bigger kids!

So why do we return to Castaway whenever we get the chance??? I’m not really sure if it’s for the peanut satay pizzas, or whether it’s for the brilliant kids club, or maybe it’s for the isolated tropical location…where when you look out to sea, it really is Heaven on Earth!

We have recently returned from a trip to Castaway Island in Fiji.

We had 7 nights in an Island Bure on Castaway with our 2 children, aged 8 and 10, and absolutely loved it.  So much so, that we’re already trying to get quotes to return next year to meet up with friends we met on the island.

We were there 3 weeks before the Sydney school holidays, so there were quite a few families with toddlers and smaller children.  Was lovely seeing all the babies and toddlers running in and out of the water, and then they all had naps after lunch, so the afternoons were very peaceful.

Our 2 children had a great time in the kids club and spent most days there in all 3 sessions. These ran 10.00 – 12, 1.30 – 3.00, and 6.30 – 9.00pm.  Aseri, Dee and Finau ran kids' club and did a fantastic job. The kids loved them. Aseri has been there for 12 years and her mother has been there for 36 years.

The children had their own kids dinner buffet from 5.30 – 6.30pm, and then were signed in to kids' club. We would sit with them and have a pre-dinner cocktail, but after a few days, the kids were sitting with friends from kids' club, while the parents sat at another table having our pre-dinner drinks.

The adults then had a leisurely dinner and collected the children at 9.00pm or had a babysitter lined up to take the kids back to bed. Babysitters cost about $6.00 an hour, so well worth it.

After dinner most nights around 9.00pm, they had crab or frog races in the bar or trivia nights.  There was always something going on, and the older kids joined in as well.

The island was full when we were there, although you would never have thought so.  You never had to fight for a lounge on the beach, or a table at meal time.

Breakfast was a full buffet, as well as having eggs and omelettes cooked to order.  Lunch was buffet or a la carte.  Service at lunch and dinner was a little slow, but it didn’t really matter (unless you were booked in for a massage or dive trip).  Food wasn’t exactly 5 star, but certainly filled your tummy and the kids were happy, which is the main thing.

No tv or phone in the bures made it very peaceful.  You could even get a bag of laundry done for FJ$20 – bargain!

In the end we were very sad to leave, but we’ve promised we’ll be back next year. BULA.

We stayed at Castaway Island. WOW - what a great place.

From the time we arrived until the minute we left the kids were entertained and loved it.

The kids club staff were fantastic and bent over backwards to make the kids feel at home.  There was a wide range of age groups at the club but all the kids were catered for.

Evenings were great - kids dinner time - followed by kids club letting us parents enjoy dinner together!

We took the meal deal which worked out to be excellent value and there was always something for everyone at whatever time of the day. The kids especially loved the pizza bar!

We will definately be going back someday - the sooner the better!
