We have been going to Fiji for about 5 years now, it's one of our favourite destinations, besides the snow. We always stay at the Sheraton Resort which is located on Denarau Island which is only 20 minutes from Nadi Airport. We love it on Denarau Island as it has a fantastic 18holes champion golf course, and also has about 6 outstanding 4 1/2 to 5 star resorts including - Hilton, Radisson, Sheraton Villas, The Westin and plenty more. It's great having all the other resorts, all walking distance of course and all have amazing and fun pool areas.
On Denarau Island there is a Bula Bus which runs from 7am to 11pm at night, its free of course and it stops at every hotel on the island, you just jump on and off whenever you feel like it. The kids love it.
Also on Denarau they have just finished the Marina, which is fabulous, great shopping and excellent restaurants, supermarket, banks, chemist, just about anything, there is no need to go into town. But if you want to venture into town its only 10 minutes away and it has great shopping also.
I love the Sheraton for a family resort, they have kids club which is fantastic, the kids never want to come home. And at night if they are too tired, the after hours babysitting is great, we have been using the same sitter (Sereana) everytime, she is such a lovely person. When we were in Fiji 2 years ago, Sereana took us to her village which wasn't far away for a feast it was a great afternoon meeting her whole family, it was especially good to see my son Austin playing with all the kids in the village, and for him to see how the Fijians live. Great Day.
Going back to the Kids Club, I asked my son every morning if he would like to spend the day with me around the pool or go to kids club. Well the answer every day was kids club, because they do so much with the kids. The activities in kids club are different every day.
On to tours, one day of the trip I like to take my son out on one of the boats to one of the island for a bit of snorkling and lunch. One thing that I have learnt from Fiji is not to go in the cyclone season as we did this year which was January, we flew into Fiji and it was flooded, it was a nightmare. The trip didn't start to well as we spent the first 12 hours in the airport as all the roads were closed and weren't letting anyone out. But that won't stop us from going back next year, we just won't go the first 3 months of the year. Fiona Grooby
