4 tips for Shanghai Disneyland

To get the most out of your visit

Make your visit to the newest and busiest Disneyland a magical and memorable one

1. Stay on site

The Toy Story Hotel and the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel are the two options for staying within the Disney Resort area, both Disney themed to perfection to ensure a magical stay. Both hotels offer free shuttle bus rides throughout the day to and from Disneyland and Disneytown so there is no need to hire a car or take a taxi. Complimentary water bottles are provided for each person every day that you stay as well as Disney-themed bathroom amenities and slippers. Kids will love meeting their favourite Toy Story characters at the Toy Story Hotel or posing for pictures with Mickey at Lumiere’s Kitchen at the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel while eating waffles and pancakes at the breakfast buffet.

“Spending four days there was perfect as we were able to take our time to explore, enjoy all the rides and have a relaxing lunch.”

2. Tickets

Aim to visit on weekdays and avoid weekends and holidays if you can. We chose to spend four days at Disneyland so we purchased two two-day tickets. Tickets are for specific days only and must be used on those dates. Spending four days there was perfect as we were able to take our time to explore, enjoy all the rides and have a relaxing lunch. The kids loved having the time to experience their favourite rides again and again. You can purchase tickets in advance when you book direct with one of the Disney hotels or you can buy them from the concierge desk at the Disney Hotels when you arrive. This saves waiting in the ticket line when you get to the park.

3. Get there early and use the Fastpass system

To get the most out of your day it is so important to get to the park before the advertised opening time. Shanghai Disneyland is the hottest thing to open in China right now so everyone is coming to visit. The security and the entrance lines can get extremely long and the process is much slower than the other Disney parks so get there early to avoid wasting precious park time standing in line.

Once you enter Disneyland immediately make your way to any of the Fastpass rides listed on the park map. Once you have collected your Fastpass to ride at a later time go and line up for another popular ride before the line gets longer as the day progresses. The Fastpass tickets here run out quicker than any other Disney park with distribution sometimes ending one hour after the park opens.

4. Enjoy the facilities outside of Disneyland, too

Disneytown, located right next door to Shanghai Disneyland, offers many family-friendly dining options and stores including the World of Disney Store. Kids will love exploring and playing in the largest Lego store in the world. Spread over two floors, the kids can get hands-on playing with Lego on the building tables or creating their own set of mini figures.

When you need to relax head to Wishing Star Park and escape the crowds for activities that the whole family can enjoy. Rent a bike and ride together around the Wishing Star Lake or set your kids loose in the Dragonfly Playground.
