5 Family Friendly Reasons to Choose

the Movenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach Phuket

There’s a mind-boggling selection of hotels and resorts for families holidaying in Phuket and it is a daunting task to find the right one, particularly as we have never visited before. We decided on the Movenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach based on recommendations from scores of friends, rave reviews from hotel ranking sites and the backing of a Holidays with Kids Top 10 Family Resort in Thailand Readers Choice Award. Here are five reasons why we think you should choose it too:

1. Mammoth Main Pool

We spent lazy days at the Movenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach by the expansive lagoon pool, easy to do with a mini water polo section, a five meter water slide, sectioned off wading pool, bubbling fountains and the all important swim-up bar, where kids enjoy an ice cream - Movenpick of course.

2. Complimentary Kids Club

Dropping the kids off at Play Zone the resort kids club was completely guilt free as ours were always keen to go. Offering a fun-filled program that included; morning yoga, outdoor soccer games, face painting, musical chairs or elaborate paper snowflake creations. The kids loved the indoor gym and ball pit and the numerous crafty creations to take home. For a fee, kids can participate in enrichment activities such as Thai batik printing or paper fan painting.

Whilst the kids were cared for by trained English speaking staff, we indulged in a couples massage where the stresses of travelling with kids were skillfully kneaded away in the privacy of our own spa villa, a blissful experience where we were lulled to sleep by the trickle of fountains and the faint sounds of traditional music.

3. Family Friendly Accommodation

From refurbished Family Rooms with a separate sliding partition, Family Villas with plunge pool, two bedroom self contained apartments or two- and three- bedroom Family Suites, we love that Movenpick Resort and Spa Karon get’s that families can consist of more than one child and offers a variety of accommodation options to suite even the largest of families.

Our family of four were able to spread out and relax, enjoying the flat screen TV with cable channels and multi-device free WIFI in our palatial Family Suite that accommodates eight. We made ourselves at home with two large bedrooms, roomy living area with dining table and two sprawling ensuite bathrooms complete with a deep bathtub and separate outdoor rain shower.

4. Buffet Breakfast Choices Galore

Spoilt for choice and with several resort locations, we wanted for nothing during at breakfast on our eight-day stay. The kids could take their pick from a variety of cereals, freshly made crepes and pancakes, fluffy bread rolls, warm croissants, traditional Thai curries, smoked meats and cheese, an assortment of tropical fruits like dragon fruit and guava, bacon and eggs made to order or a steamy bowl of noodles.

5. Superb Karon Beach Location

Each evening we strolled through the resort gardens along footpaths lined with palm trees, which lead us to Karon Beach. Greeted with gentle waves lapping the long stretch of golden beach, we’d kick of our shoes and a quiet spot on the soft sand was always found to sip from take away sundowners and snack on satay skewers and grilled seafood, conveniently acquired from the beachfront stalls along the boulevard.

Whilst the kids dipped their toes in the Andaman Sea, the last paragliders would come ashore and we’d watch sun paint the sky with ambers, pinks and purples as it journeyed towards the horizon.
