5 things kids will love at Hawaii’s Aulani

A Disney Resort & Spa

Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa is where the beach and palm trees meet the magic and wonder of Disney. Created with families in mind this resort is all about having fun in the sun.

1. Meeting the Disney Characters

Meeting their favourite Disney character in real life can be a dream come true. You can book a character buffet breakfast at the on-site restaurant Makahiki that includes meeting characters such as Mickey and Minnie Mouse and includes photo opportunities. The resort also has character greetings at different locations throughout the resort advertised in the daily newsletter. On our recent visit we were lucky enough to spot Mickey Mouse walking around the resort pools and he happily posed for a picture with my boys.

2. Eating Mickey-shaped food

This is always a fun and delicious thing for kids to enjoy at all Disney Parks and Resorts. Mickey-shaped waffles for breakfast, Mickey-shaped pretzels for snacks, Mickey-shaped peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch or dinner topped off with a Mickey-shaped brownie or ice-cream for dessert, it’s easy to keep the theme going all day long. Kids will especially love the Mickey-shaped shave ice, a frozen Hawaiian dessert with many different flavour options such as mango, strawberry and coconut; it’s the perfect treat to enjoy on a sunny day sitting by the pool.

3. Discovering surprises along the Menehune adventure trail

This is a high-tech and interactive treasure hunt using an iPad supplied by the resort that the whole family can enjoy. Both indoors and in the grounds of the resort you follow a set of clues that take you on different trails to discover hidden objects. As you follow along on the journey you learn about the Menehune ‘little people’ of Hawaii and you get to see things move or appear ‘magically’ before your eyes. Kids will love the challenge of working out the next clue to discover more surprises while learning about Hawaiian culture along the way.

4. Playing at Aunty’s Beach House

Aunty’s Beach House is the kids’ club for ages three to 12 that is included with your stay at Aulani. It includes complimentary experiences as well as optional experiences at an extra cost. My kids loved making new friends and meeting other kids from around the world while having fun at the playground in Aunty’s garden. Children will especially love the optional experiences like the Surf’s Up with Chip ’n Dale party experience where they can decorate their own mini surfboard and enjoy a themed dinner.

5. Swimming, sliding and snorkelling

With 2.8 hectares of water-fun activities to be enjoyed at Aulani there is always plenty of adventure and fun to be had. From the private beach to snorkelling with the brightly coloured Hawaiian fish in the rainbow reef, the hardest decision will be which one to try first. Kids will love the water slide adventures, the lazy river, the splash zone and the Menehune Bridge. With facilities like this you’d think that you were at a Disneyland water theme park set in paradise.
