4 Top Tips for visiting Disneyland California with kids

Snowflakes, Palmtrees & Pretzels has all the top tips and tricks on how to make a family holiday to Disneyland Park California the best holiday ever.

Disneyland California is the original theme park created by Walt Disney. It’s a fantasyland where families can have fun together and create unforgettable memories. These tips will help you to have a magical experience with your kids.

1. Stay off-site

I usually recommend a stay in a Disney hotel when visiting any of the Disneyland parks around the world however this time I feel that staying off-site could be a better option if you want to save money but still stay somewhere amazing. There are many different hotels in Anaheim for every budget, located either within walking distance from Disneyland or by a short shuttle ride away. We chose to stay at the Courtyard Anaheim Theme Park Entrance hotel as it was only a five-minute walk from the entrance to Disneyland and they offer large rooms suitable for families. Kids will love the waterpark at this hotel with 30-foot water slides and a 400-gallon drench bucket.

2. Buy the right tickets

Disneyland California consists of two theme parks, Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park. To discover everything that both parks offer, make sure you buy a multi-day ticket so you can make the most of your visit. Purchase your 3-day or 4-day tickets online to enjoy one Magic Morning early admission before the park opens to the general-public. Choose the Park Hopper ticket option as it gives you the opportunity to swap between the two parks when needed. Kids will love the recently opened Cars Land at Disney California Adventure Park so make sure you grab a FastPass ticket for Radiator Springs Racers first thing in the morning to avoid the long lines.

3. Take time to enjoy the food

The food at all the Disneyland Parks around the world is themed and always well-worth trying. For a classic American treat you can’t go past a corn dog from Corn Dog Castle at Disney California Adventure Park. Hot, fresh Mickey-shaped beignets are another must-try from the Mint Julep Bar in the Disneyland Park. Kids will really love the new Cars Land where they can dine at the Cozy Cone Motel which consists of five giant cones each offering different snacks such as flavoured popcorn, pretzels and even drinks like Fillmore’s Fuelin’ Groovy’ all-Natural Lemonade served in a souvenir oil can sipper cup.

4. Experience Disney at night

Don’t be tempted to go back to the hotel too early and miss the magic of Disney at night. If you have young children take a break at your hotel in the afternoon instead and head back to the parks at night for a magical evening of entertainment including the Fireworks Spectacular and World of Colour. Dining packages are available to book that include a 3-course meal and a reserved spot in the World of Colour preferred viewing area. Kids will love seeing the show up-close and may even feel the water splash on them.
