9 Reasons to take a GoPro on your next family holiday

Think a GoPro is a just for those adventurous folk who fling themselves off cliffs, ride five-metre waves or hurtle at speed down icy black runs? Think again. As we recently discovered, it just might be the ultimate family travel accessory!

High image quality for stills and video.

Seriously, whether you’re drowning amongst a sea of selfie-sticks trying to snap that perfect family shot of the Eiffel Tower, cycling along a scenic path, or simply splashing about in your resort pool, a GoPro can do it with you … and do it well.

Here are our family’s top nine reasons to pack a GoPro for your next holiday!

1. They’re portable.

Small enough that you can chuck it in your pocket, they’re also the perfect size for little hands. Even a baby can hold a GoPro to capture some seriously cute selfie action.

2. You can take them anywhere.

Attach it to the awesome 3-Way selfie-stick, clamp it to the handlebars of your bike, or even strap it to the kids with a Junior Chesty harness for amazing action footage taken from their perspective. In fact there are accessories available that mean you can attach it to just about anything … even the family pet!

3. They’re tough as nails!

One of the things I love about our GoPro is that it’s both shock and waterproof so I can give it to the kids and let them go wild with zero worries about them dropping it or spilling something on it! In fact my son dropped his in a curry while he was trying to film his lunch (don’t ask) and it came out on the other end as good as new, if a little more fragrant.

4. They have underwater photography licked.

Literally, just lick the screen to prevent water droplets forming and you’ll get incredible underwater footage of your little fish in the pool or at the beach. Waterproof to a depth of up to 197 feet, you wont’ even need to worry about them being dropped to the bottom of the pool!

5. Kids love making their own movies.

My kids loved experimenting with all the modes on a GoPro, which in turn takes the onus off me to capture all the family holiday snaps. Plus it’s easy enough to edit the footage and add a soundtrack on your computer for my seven-year old to manage (with a little assistance). And while he may not be the next Tarantino, he certainly had a ball making movies of his holiday highlights.

6. They make an awesome icebreaker.

My son not only had an entire plane joining in on the GoPro action, he made a point of asking everyone from resort staff to our flight attendants to join him in scenes and selfies. They were all pretty chuffed and some became firm friends by the end of his holiday.

7. The image quality will blow you away.

Whether you're shooting stills or video, the image quality will blow you away! And the wide angle allows you to capture some amazing scenes a normal camera can't.

8. They're smartphone compatible

The free GoPro App is compatible with most smart phones and tablets! You can use your phone to watch a live preview of what your camera is filming and remotely turn it on and off, even while the kids are using it in the pool!

9. They're social media savvy.

They have a touch display and Wi-Fi so you can play your videos straight back, edit and upload them to your phone to send out on your social media platforms on the spot! Perfect for sharing the holiday fun with the folks back home.
