Top 7 things to do in New York with a preschooler

New York, USA

There is so much for a preschooler to do in New York City , it was too tough to narrow it down to just five things. New York City kids are spoiled for entertainment in this centre of culture, history and art.

American Museum of Natural History
Central Park West at 79th Street, New York, NY

A must for dinosaur-lovers, the AMNH is one of the largest museums in the world. It’s most famous for its fossil halls, including the brand new “Titanosaur” - a cast of a 122-foot- long dinosaur, one of the largest dinosaurs ever discovered.

Children’s Museum of Manhattan
212 W 83rd St, New York, NY

Kids won’t want to leave this hands-on museum, featuring five floors of literature, science, media and art exhibits, and programs. Preschoolers will particularly enjoy Frolic!, their pop-up play space exclusively for kids aged five and under, where they can climb into replica 1970s Volkswagen minivan and slide down a Rolling Stones-inspired tongue slide.

Children’s Museum of Art
103 Charlton St, New York, NY

This museum is designed for kids to explore the world of art in a hands-on environment. Join a WEE Arts drop in class to let your little one try out basic art materials in a nurturing, engaging environment (where you don’t have to clean up afterwards!). Another fave is the ball pond, a room fill with huge giant bouncy balls for kids to jump around in.

Playgrounds & Parks

Preschoolers can truly enjoy the hundreds of playgrounds scattered all over the city. A fave for this age group is the Moira Ann Smith Playground at Madison Square Park, with its turreted climbing structure, water wheel and alphabet blocks. Nearby Shake Shack and Eataly provide kid-friendly dining options. Central Park is also a must-see with preschoolers, where they will enjoy climbing rocks and taking a spin on the very speedy carousel.

Disney Store
1540 Broadway, New York, NY

Disney fans can let their imaginations run wild in this two-floor tribute to Disney animated classics. As well as the store being Mecca for buying every type of Disney merch under the sun, it also features a great little area for kids screening songs from Disney movies, with table and colouring pencils for kids to really enjoy a full “Disney” moment.

The perfect day trip out of the city, the Bronx Zoo is an easy 45-minute train ride out of midtown Manhattan. The zoo features a 4-D movie theatre, bug carousel, and a newly renovated Children’s Zoo with a giant anteater and the world's smallest deer species.
