Irresistibly innovative educational play in Sydney: Nubo Play in Alexandria

Boy Eats World discovers one of Sydney's newest and best educational and fun places to go with kids.

Welcome to an irresistibly innovative new educational play space that's like nothing Sydney parents have ever seen before. Designed to connect families through purposeful play, Nubo has thrown out the usual assault on the senses approach of neon bright colours and plastic toys used in most children’s playgrounds in favour of white space and quality learning experiences.

A holistic approach to play

By combining beautiful, highly designed and uncomplicated spaces with bespoke educational programs, the play centre, located in Alexandria, applies a more holistic approach to play than traditional indoor play centres. The massive 760-square-metre play centre incorporates a series of rooms including a gorgeous library with private pods and a giant hot air balloon where kids can curl up with their favourite book; Nubo has a construction room filled with oversize building blocks, pipes and gears; a workshop room to explore music, drama, robotics and more; an imagination zone with a play kitchen; a puzzle room; and a zone for active kids with a ceiling-high climbing frame, ball pits, slides and more.

“If Lotte and Leni's beaming smiles are anything to go by, Nubo gets a huge thumbs up.”

Workshop heaven

Nubo also provides little guests with different ways to play with free play, facilitated play and structured workshops for kids that follow a step-by-step process. These workshops include cooking, art, music and coding amongst others.

Lotte and Leni, our lovely little road testers busily climbed, jumped, crawled, painted and played their way around the centre. And if their beaming smiles are anything to go by, Nubo gets a huge thumbs up.

Healthy variety

After burning off all that energy, there’s also a purpose designed café where, instead of the rock-hard nuggets and cake we’re used to seeing in play centres, you’ll find a lovely variety of healthy dishes including Nubo’s signature pizzas and tasty salads as well as inspired kids’ snack boxes packed with sushi, wraps and fruit.

The Nubo vision was to create a space for kids’ that is calming rather than chaotic, and educational as well as fun. A place where adults could interact with their children as they read, create, build, climb and taste. And they have delivered on every level with a game changing play space for young families.

When she’s not treading on Lego and being forced to watch Frozen on loop, Aleney de Winter is a travel, food and parenting writer. She shares tales of travelling and eating along with the hilarious antics of her globetrotting six-year old foodie son and daredevil three-year old daughter on her blog, Boy Eats World.
