Kids' Hotels

by Lisa Perkovic

Making sure the little ones in your life have a good time on holiday is often key to ensuring you have a good holiday. If you don’t want to sacrifice your creature comforts for the kids, here’s Expedia’s Listopedia of luxury kids’ hotels.

Soneva Kiri, Koh Kood
High above the shores of Koh Kood, just a short flight from Bangkok, Soneva Kiri is part five-star resort/part adventure land. Let the kids run wild inside The Den, a Manta Ray-shaped bamboo hideout with a drawbridge, art, music and games rooms. There are even sleepover pods and a chocolate store. Big kids (ok, adults) will get a hit out of breakfast in a Tree Top Pod, being a big basket that rises up from the ground and into the canopy, with food delivered by staff on zip lines. Book the whole family into the Beach Pool Reserve, where the kids’ bedroom connects straight to the pool via water slide.

Plaza Hotel, NY Eloise Suites
Immortalised in the children’s books by Kay Thompson and Hilary Knight, Eloise was a little girl who lived at The Plaza. One of New York’s most sumptuous hotels, The Plaza is determined to make every little girl’s dream come true – The Eloise Suite is pink, pink and more pink! Designed by internationally renowned and quirky fashion designer Betsey Johnson, the custom space is usually booked with the adjoining, non-pink suite next door for the grown ups.

Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort
If you’re in need of a little downtime for the whole family but don’t want to deal with long flight times, the Sofitel in Nusa Dua is a great spot to spend a few days. Located right on the beachfront inside Nusa Dua’s exclusive gated resort community, the Sofitel opened at the end of last year and has plenty to keep the little ones occupied. Each restaurant has a dedicated play area – child friendly chairs, ball pits, toys, puzzles, couches. The buffet stocks everything from donuts to gluten free children’s snacks. There is a dedicated kids club on site but you’ll have trouble keeping the kids out of the enormous pool, which sprawls through the resort.

Langham Melbourne, Australia
For modern princesses, the Langham Melbourne is a fairytale come true. From the grand lobby to Coco the teddy bear, the five star hotel makes a big impression on the little ones. Keep an eye out for regular themed afternoon teas – earlier this year Barbie and the Pearl Princess was the theme. Think tiara cupcakes, fruit magic wands, rainbow meringues and pink princess punch. November’s theme is Paddington Bear.

Bovey Castle, England
Bovey Castle sits on 275 acres inside Dartmoor National Park and has 64 rooms and 14 lodges, a championship golf course, day spa, restaurant and resident falconer. And for kids – LEGO room service! Upon check in, each child receives a toy order form. The LEGO is delivered by the hotel’s own LEGO concierge. And then there’s the kids club. Bovey Rangers takes kids club to a new level – camp fire building, archery, owl encounters and plenty of moorland adventures await. The Playroom is great for rainy days, with more sedate activities such as biscuit decorating and painting on offer. Either way, your little lord or lady will be well looked after.
