Daylesford Delights

Jodie Fisher delights in a family weekend getaway in the small town of Daylesford.

Recently we were fortunate enough to have the opportunity for an extended family weekend away to celebrate some anniversaries and birthday at the eclectic township of Daylesford, in regional Victoria.

An easy day trip or relaxed weekend getaway, Daylesford is just over 100 kilometres from Melbourne, surrounded by the picturesque Wombat Forest and part of the famous ‘spa’ region. Just 5 kilometres from Hepburn Springs and its natural mineral spring waters there are ample spa and pampering spots and boutique accommodation.

This gorgeous town is a mix of historical, modern and spiritual, with a community built on wellness and healing. A feast for the senses, boasting antique stores, modern and alternative eateries and art galleries, markets, bush walks and the relaxing ambiance of Lake Daylesford, the town in filled with sights and destinations the whole family will enjoy.

With its waterfall and crisp waters, surrounded by bushland and luxury houses, a mid-morning walk around Lake Daylesford, was a lovely way to begin to wind down our trip. There was lots of birdlife and a children’s playground, and we all enjoyed some Winter sunshine and fresh air before hitting the centre of town for a wander through the diverse shops and galleries, followed by an early lunch.

There are a plethora of choices when it comes to eating in Daylesford. From fine dining to quaint home-style bakeries and cafes, there will be something to suit everyone. Catering for a range of dietary needs and lifestyle choices, the food intolerant foodie is well covered, much to my delight and satisfaction.

If you get the opportunity I would also highly recommend making the short trip to The Chocolate Mill on the outskirts of town. The mill is a chocolate lovers dream, with only the finest treats on offer.

When not partaking in pretend tea parties with her 2-year old daughter, or learning the finer points of playing Minecraft® with her 5-year old son, Jodie is the voice of Fresh Home Cook – a blog focused on food free from gluten and lactose but full of flavour the whole family will enjoy.
