Kids enjoy adventures at Echo Valley Farm Stay

Echo Valley Farm Stay is hands down is one of the best spots in south east Queensland to unwind and introduce children to farm animals.

During the September school holidays we spent a weekend at the 180-acre historic working farm in Springbrook in the Gold Coastís hinterland. Itís located about 45 minutes from the Gold Coast and about 90 minutes from Brisbane.

This exceptionally well-kept and picturesque property was one of the first farms in the Springbrook area and itís an adventure waiting to happen for kids. A certified organic kiwifruit orchard, Echo Valley is ideally located just minutes from majestic waterfalls, bush walks and spectacular lookouts. Fantastic coffee and a massive selection of treats from The Fudge Shop are just a short walk away, talk about location!

Fresh flowers and farm-fresh eggs were waiting for us in the self-contained cottage that features three bedrooms, one with a double bed and two with two single beds. Quality linen is provided and thereís hot water bottles should you desire. Rosalind, the owner, has lovingly renovated this cottage and the living room has a large wooden dining room table and a working fireplace with comfy couches. Every possible amenity is included and the fully-equipped kitchen with beautiful garden views makes it feel like youíre a million miles from anyone.

Have a Laugh on Me

At 3pm Rozie and partner David met us at the chook house where my three extremely excited children got to let the chooks out, collect the eggs and learn a few farm facts and rules. The kids were then allowed to carry food for the farmís two retired horses, George and Daisy. Next it was time to hand feed the goats and the kids were in their element, apparently Santaís being asked to bring my youngest a baby goat for Christmas!

We then got a guided tour around the property and the kids got to pick macadamia nuts from 80-year-old trees, jump in puddles and get close to cows, bush turkeys and other wildlife. It was incredibly relaxing and the kids were excited to be nature adventurers for the day, and there wasnít an electronic device in sight, oh the serenity! Rozie and David are helpful and incredibly interesting hosts but not intrusive, itís just the right balance for a farm stay.

As the sun went down I lit the fire and the kids played cards while I pretended I live in the country, it was fabulous. After a massive day of exploring in some of the freshest air in Australia, the kids crashed out leaving a set of parents happy to enjoy a night of peace and quiet. The next day we roamed the property as we pleased and there wasnít a fight in sight, Echo Valley Farm Stay is a must-do as far as Iím concerned.

When sheís not wrangling her three children, aged 3, 5 and 7, Gold Coaster and professional writer Emily Toxward (Have A Laugh On Me) juggles work, cooking for fussy children and parent helping at school. Escaping to the beach is her idea of paradise and writing about the trials and tribulations of life in an honest and often humorous way is her way of staying sane!
