Elements of Byron is bliss for families
Having just spent the most blissful few days visiting Elements of Byron, this is one local natural beauty to add to your family holiday bucket list, says Coralie Parsons.
If you are in search of a local Australian paradise, you will be pleased to know Elements of Byron is within easy reach. This beachfront property has all the features that make and define a perfect Australian beach family holiday.
Location, location, location
This luxury beachfront resort is perfectly situated with direct unobstructed views of Belongil Beach, located in the far-northeastern coastal town of NSW Byron Bay.
If you’re opting to fly, you’ll either arrive at Ballina airport, a 25–30-minute drive to Elements of Byron resort, or Gold Coast airport, a 45-minute drive away.
If you’re driving, Byron Bay is a 9-hour drive north from Sydney or a two-hour drive south of Brisbane.
Accommodation for families
Beautifully appointed private villas are spread across 22 hectares of Australian beachfront paradise, each radiating serenity.
Choose from eight types of villas, ranging from the Botanica Studio through to the new Deluxe 2-Bedroom Villa.
The two-bedroom villas (there are Standard and Superior options, as well as the top-level Deluxe) are the ideal choice for travelling families. The Standard 2-Bedroom Villas are spacious, featuring two ensuite bedrooms with a central lounge and kitchen that opens out onto an outdoor dining terrace, enclosed with insect screens, embracing nature and allowing the outdoors in.
If you’re planning to stay a while and require a few more extra comforts of home, the Superior and Deluxe 2-Bedroom Villas have all the amenities of the Standard, plus a laundry with washer/dryer and iron, and a layout that’s a little more spacious. On top of that, the Deluxe option offers a few extra trimmings to make your stay even more comfortable with a gas fireplace located on the outdoor terrace.
Our kids were delighted to find that the villa included an in-room tablet (all villas are provided with this amenity), unlimited complimentary movies and games (UNO being our family all-time favourite).
When we travel we appreciate the comforts of home and the Superior 2-Bedroom Villa exceeded our expectations. It really was a beautiful space to unwind and relax each evening after spending our days exploring this idyllic destination.
Something that particularly impressed me was the way guests are invited to embrace the natural beauty of the environment. Take the new Adventure Playground, a favourite with our kids. The equipment was made from natural timbers for a rustic feel, placed on white sand alongside the lush green lawn and forest, next to the tennis courts.
Life-size games of chess and bocce are also subtly placed in between villas.
Having these located in different parts of the resort is very clever, allowing guest the opportunity to take leisurely walks around the property with fun interactive stops along the way.
Lazy days are spent perched on a hanging lounge, relaxing in a shaded poolside bure, or reclining on a lounger under an umbrella, and generally enjoying this magnificent lagoon infinity pool. With paddling pools for the kids and a heated spa, there’s fun for all the family. If you’re visiting in winter, you can still enjoy the space as the pool is heading during the cooler months.
An adults-only pool is planned to open to guests late December this year.
The Beach Lounge has spectacular views of the white sand and blue ocean of Belongil Beach. Park yourself under an umbrella and relax on a lounger while the kids catch a wave or get creative making sandcastles. The beach is patrolled by lifeguards each weekend and during the school holiday period.
Be sure to be beach side Friday and Saturday afternoons from 4pm till sunset where the pop-up beach bar offers icy-cold refreshments and snacks, and enjoy a game of Jenga or bocce while relaxing and listening to some soothing tunes.
Take a walk on the wild side
The property’s setting on over 20 hectares of native bushland makes for a perfect opportunity to explore. Discover an abundance of flora and fauna and spot wildlife along the way. There are educational plaques scattered throughout the resort, with information about the wildlife and flora you may encounter along the way. With more than 2 kilometres of signposted walking trails, this can be done at your leisure or take one of the scheduled guided walks with the resorts ranger.
Awaken your senses with a complimentary early-morning yoga session. First Light Club Yoga overlooking the Pacific Ocean is a beautiful way to begin the day. The sunrise is absolutely spectacular from this vantage and definitely well worth the early wake-up.
Parents, be sure to make an appointment at the Osprey Spa to enjoy time to unwind and indulge in a little rest and relaxation. With an extensive list of services you are spoilt for choice, and just walking into the space transports you to a calm oasis. Treatment rooms subtly embrace the beauty and natural elements of the environment
Byron Bay is renowned for the quality of its local produce. The dining experience offered at Elements of Byron is second to none and certain to impress the fussiest of little eaters. Children are very well catered for with healthy favourites from a dedicated kids’ menu (our little gourmands hailed the margherita pizza the best they have ever had). Little ones are also offered pencils and colouring-in when dining at Graze Restaurant or Drift Bar on the terrace.
Graze Restaurant offers breakfast, lunch and dinner menu. Be sure to make the most of each breakfast, with an incredible spread of fruits, cold meats and cheese, breads, cereal and pastries just to begin. The hot breakfast offered is exceptional – a favourite with our children were the pancakes from the kids menu – and there are plenty of delicious gluten-free offerings.
If you’re looking for a decadent experience that will delight your tastebuds, be sure to dine at Graze Restaurant for lunch or dinner and enjoy seasonal, regional cuisine at its finest.
Drift Bar is the perfect place meet up with family and friends, enjoying pre-dinner drinks and snacks as the sun sets from a seat by the poolside fire pit.
Barefoot Kiosk offers fresh light meals, cocktails and snacks beside the pool. The fried-chicken burger was absolutely delicious and accompanied by the best thick-cut fries I’ve ever tasted. For a sweet treat, the Flyin’ Fox ice blox are heavenly, with organic lime & mint and watermelon our favourite flavours.
School holiday kids’ club
With school holidays fast approaching Elements of Byron is offering a seasonal kids’ club. Children have the opportunity to participate in arts and crafts and sports all under the supervision of qualified staff. This is a wonderful opportunity for the kids to meet and socialise with other little guests. Little ones can enjoy painting, playing dodge ball, parachute games, sack races and building with Lego.
This activity will incur a small additional fee and is for ages 4 to 12 (children under 4 need to be accompanied by an adult). Be sure to check with the resort allocated times and dates.
