Radisson Blu Resort Fiji Denarau Island
An expert's guide to Fiji
By Radisson Blu Resort Fiji Denarau Island
Holidays with Kids gets an expertís opinion on how
to make the most of a Fiji escape with the family.
T here are as many things to do in Fiji
as there are islands in this Pacific
nation - and thatís more than 300.
Choosing how to spend your
valuable holiday time can prove
quite the challenge. While itís easy enough to
fly and flop, if youíre really going to discover Fiji
as a family, you need an insiderís knowledge.
Thatís where we come in, the Concierge team
at Radisson Blu Resort Fiji Denarau Island,
led by Meline Turaga. Weíre on hand to advise
and suggest various excursions, to help you
create an unforgettable South Pacific
Close to home
Denarau Island is a great place to start. Itís just
a 20-minute drive from Nadi International
Airport to your beachfront base at Radisson
Just beyond the resort, youíll find Port
Denarau, the main departure point for
exploration to the outer Mamanuca and
Yasawa island groups. You can take a cruise
into this aquatic wilderness, enjoy other
adventures in the bay, or visit the Big Bula
If youíd rather keep your
feet on the ground, the Denarau Golf &
Racquet Club is a must; as a guest of
Radisson Blu Resort Fiji, youíll receive
complimentary access to this sports hub.
While mum and dad take on the fairway and
marine animal-shaped bunkers, the kids can
test their skills on the mini-golf course or take
part in a junior tennis clinic.
Down to the river
The Sigatoka River is the longest in Fiji, leading
straight into the heart of Viti Levu, and is the
lifeblood for the many villages along its banks.
Here, you can see how the resident Fijians live;
itís an eye-opening experience and kids are
bound to be struck by the differences between
their lives and those of the young Fijians.
a taste, we recommend a Sigatoka River Safari. This jet-boat experience carries
adventurers of all ages along the river and into
one of 15 host villages. Each day, the tour visits
a different village to ensure locals enjoy all the
benefits of tourism without the visits defining
their daily lives Ė and ensuring a more
authentic experience for you.
As a tropical island, Fiji is home to a colourful
array of wildlife, including vibrant parrots and
finches, sea turtles and endangered iguanas.
While you might be able to spot some of these
birds around the resort or some underwater
friends on a snorkelling trip, the only place you
can get up close to all of them in the one place
is Kula Eco Park. Fijiís only wildlife park is
located in Sigatoka, an hourís drive from
A highlight with our young zoologistsin-
training is the Ranger for the Day
programme, designed to show kids aged
seven to 12 the inner workings of the park.
Theyíll get hands-on, mixing up special food,
handfeeding collared lories, checking on Fijiís
rarest iguana and planting a tree to attract the
beautiful fruit doves that visit. Junior rangers
are also fitted with their very own uniform shirt
that they can take home as a keepsake.
All at sea
With so many islands to discover, it makes
sense to take to the water.
Start with a dip at
the beach just a few steps from the Radisson
Blu Resort Fijiís pools, then make your way to
Adrenalin Fiji water sports, located on site, for
kayaks, aqua trikes, stand-up paddleboards
and snorkelling, and more adventurous options
like jet skis and parasailing.
The Finding Nemo
Family Cruise to South Sea Island by South
Sea Cruises is a perennial favourite with our
guests, offering a blend of aquatic exploration
and relaxation on one of the Mamanucasí
smallest sandy isles.
