Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival, Harbin

If your family are chill-seekers and on the lookout for activities to fill an upcoming Chinese holiday itinerary, the world’s biggest International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival is set to be held in Harbin, China between 5th January and 28th February next year.

The area will undergo a remarkable makeover for the duration of the festival, seeing ice sculptures and displays speckling the entire city. The two main exhibitions will be the enormous snow sculptures at Sun Island, and “Ice and Snow World” which will literally alight each night, with full-sized buildings made of thick, crystal-like ice from the Songhua River being illuminated by an array of colourful lights and effects. It will definitely feel out of this universe – and provide a perfect atmosphere to then try activities like ice skating, dog sledding, winter swimming watching and much more!

Harbin is an exciting tourist destination in its own right as well, being the capital and largest city of the Heilongjiang Province in Northeast China. It’s renowned as the “Eastern Moscow” – with elaborate Russian architecture which blends beautifully with local Chinese streets. There’s also a touch of Europe about it, with a number of cobbled stone streets and buildings with eclectic influences ranging from Renaissance to Baroque. You can catch a bullet train from Beijing and be there in 8 hours. Easy!

Christine Ji-Seitan, Managing Director of Selective Tours, is keen to promote this amazing event. It’s definitely worth getting to. Selective Tours has designed a special Winter China 9-day tour package, which will let you and your loved ones experience Shanghai, Xian, Beijing and, of course, Harbin. Prices start from $2428pp. This is based on twin share accommodation and includes private English speaking guides, 8 nights of 4-star accommodation, 2 high speed trains, 1 internal flight, all transfers, breakfast each day, sightseeing and all entrance fees.
