Hotel review: HOSHINOYA Bali

Tucked away in the scenic hills of Ubud, HOSHINOYA Bali resort is one of the most luxurious and relaxing destinations on the island. Holidays with Kids discovers that this reputation is well-earned.

Resting on the banks of the River Pakerisan, one of the Island of the Gods’ holiest waterways, Hoshino Resorts’ latest addition to its portfolio is a welcome haven for families. Three pools course through the property, inspired by the sacred canals of Bali’s UNESCO World Heritage-listed water temple network.

One of the major drawcards of this tropic-dwelling taste of luxury is its location. Here, visitors bask in lush Balinese surrounds, in addition to the warmth of the local culture, hospitality and cuisine.

Family-friendly at its best

Each of the 30 villas features its own semi-private area of expansive pools, organically facilitated by the traditional Balinese design and tropical floating gardens. Families will feel quite at peace, far from the expected bustle of one of the world’s most popular tourist spots.

A diner’s delight

Hungry bellies can be filled with meals and refreshments served throughout the resort, as well as an option of in-room dining. The main, open-air restaurant offers fabulous dishes for a lazy afternoon while indulging in fine cuisine and watching the motions of the surrounding jungle.

A must-taste is HOSHINOYA Bali’s take on traditional Japanese culinary techniques, which enhance Balinese flavours. Combined with fresh ingredients from the hills and seas, and notably, fresh rice from Ubud’s famous terraces, the dishes take guests on a gastronomic adventure.

Resort experience refined

The resort village area has a total of three swimming pools, where children play, laugh and lap about. Guests swim past the villas and their semi-private swimming areas and arrive at the poolside loungers. This is the perfect place to relax and chat with family and friends as you soak up the soft sun, champagne in hand. For those who are up for a more uninhibited experience, venture beyond your lofty jungle perch for a day at the beach.

A rejuvenating indulgence

Balance your chi at the resort spa, which offers programs designed to balance the mind and body. Treatments incorporate natural and local ingredients, poolside meditations and twice-daily yoga sessions – just what you need to complete your Balinese experience.
