Plantation Island, Fiji
C. Marsh, the lucky winner of the Holidays with Kids Plantation Island competition,
shares the best parts of her Fijian family adventure.
Five blissful nights at a resort designed with families in mind was just a holiday fantasy for my husband Simon and I until we won a trip to Plantation Island Resort in beautiful Fiji, thanks to Holidays with Kids!
We touched down in the early evening after a fantastic Fiji Airways flight with our four-year-old son, Zane, and almost two-year-old daughter, Lexi. Tired but excited, we checked in to Plantation Island's mainland sister hotel, Raffles Gateway Hotel, before an early-morning transfer to the island the next day.
Family-friendly Plantation Island
Holiday mode set in the minute we were welcomed off our ferry at Plantation Island Resort by the friendly and enthusiastic staff. When they adorned us with pretty shell necklaces, it felt like we'd arrived in paradise.
Being school holidays, the resort was full of families having a great time which only added to the atmosphere. Despite the holiday rush, Plantation Island managed to retain a laidback, relaxed island vibe. Our Poolside Room was spacious with a small lounge area providing a perfect space to relax.
Meal times presented plenty of choice, with something to please everyone. There were also a couple of mini-marts that stocked basic grocery needs - a huge bonus for families.
In fact, the whole resort is wonderfully kid-centric: there are plenty of high chairs at meal times, a separate children's pool with slide, a playground, inflatable water park, mini-golf plus the activity-packed Coconut kids' club, creche and island nanny services to round out the huge variety of offerings. From crab-racing and coconut-boat building to T-shirt painting, scavenger hunts and native Fijian dance lessons, there is so much to experience. Of an evening, dance-off competitions, cultural concerts and more make for great memories.
Plantation Island activities for kids (and parents)
Of course the main attraction of a Fiji holiday is fun in the sun.
There are three swimming pools at the resort to choose from, so none every really felt crowded. Our kids enjoyed hours playing in the sand on the beach while we sipped on champagne and soaked up views of the beautiful blue water.
I'ds also recommend the free glass-bottom kayak for a magical morning.
Away from the water, my husband and I indulged in a relaxing massage (definitely worth it!) while the mini-golf was a huge hit with our happy son.
It is the unique cultural touches that make Plantation Island Resort extra special. A visit to the local village and torch-lighting ceremonies overseen by the resort's resident warrior were treasured moments, and created lovely memories of a place we're keen to visit again. Very soon.
