Sea World Resort

Multigenerational Family Fun

Sea World Resort has something for the whole family, Rachel and her family discover.

Far from heading overseas to for a magical theme park holiday, you only need to go as far as the Gold Coast’s Sea World Resort. A trip to the Sea World Resort has become somewhat of a family tradition – mainly because my mother loves to spoil her grandsons rotten. Each year for the last few she’s taken the four boys (my three and their 13 year old cousin) to the resort for a week of nanna/grandson bonding and it’s something they really look forward to.

One of the many reasons that Sea World Resort is a great destination for families is the size and versatility of the rooms. In previous years Mum and the boys have stayed in a Premium Queen Room, which consists of two queen beds and a rollaway bed. In any other hotel this would probably be a pretty cramped arrangement – but the generous proportion of the rooms at Sea World makes this configuration perfectly comfortable.

This year we decided that we’d ALL go down for the week. The addition of myself and my husband meant there were three adults and four children to accommodate. Where this would usually be a massive drama at many other hotels, Sea World has the answer. Their Family Deluxe Queen rooms are made up of two large interconnecting rooms, each with its own bathroom. Even with eight people, luggage and endless kid paraphernalia there was still loads of room for us all which meant spending time indoors was actually relaxing.

Not that there was too much of that though. After all, when you have Sea World on your doorstep there are things to do and places to be! While there are room-only packages available you’d be mad not to take advantage of the VIP Pass packages that the resort offers. These allow you unlimited entry to Sea World PLUS Warner Bros. Movie World and Wet’n’Wild Water World. If you’re visiting from interstate this is a really convenient option and far cheaper than paying individual entry fees for the three parks. And if you’re a local you have the added benefit of being able to use the VIP pass until it expires (which is usually 30 June each year).

The highlight of our most recent Sea World holiday was getting up close and personal with the dolphins during a . Dolphin Family Adventure. Standing in the water with these beautiful creatures is an experience that we will never forget. The boys were amazed at how gentle they were and how willing they were to play. With guidance from one of the Sea World trainers we were able to stroke the dolphins on their back, throw balls for them and hand feed them. A truly magical encounter and one I would recommend for any family!
