Terrigal Weekend of Family Fun

The Central Coast is a fabulous place to take a break from the everyday and the gorgeous Crowne Plaza Terrigal, the perfect base for a weekend of family-friendly fun.

Great value family getaway packages make a Crowne Plaza Terrigal escape even more appealing for families with inclusions like full buffet breakfast and children dining free with a paying adult. The hotel also boasts a variety of guest rooms perfect for families. On this occasion we opt for a comfortable room with two queen-sized beds and a lounge area that leads out on to a balcony with great views over the hotel’s stunning blue pool and pretty tree-lined Terrigal beach.

Come dinnertime, Terrigal offers a variety of great family-friendly cafes and restaurants and an abundance of ice-cream shops, but our kids prefer dining in on the juicy burgers at the hotel’s Florida Beach Bar to its soundtrack of live music. In-house restaurant Seasalt also proves a favourite dinner spot, with excellent Mediterranean inspired a la carte dining, friendly service and, best of all for budget-conscious families, children 12 years and under dine free with a paying adult. Seasalt is also the location for the incredible breakfast buffet each morning, where we happily eat our own bodyweight in pancakes, bacon, and made-to-order omelettes.

If you can tear yourself away there’s plenty to be found in and around Terrigal to keep the kids amused. The monthly Avoca Beachside Markets are nearby and well worth a visit. The market has a charming bohemian vibe and is perfect for kids with live entertainment, great healthy snacks and even an ‘enchanted craft circle’. And while you’re in Avoca, head to Aquafun for a pedal-boat ride around the lagoon, my son had a blast taking to the water with his dad.

Our kids also love the nearby Bamboo Buddha Vegetarian Café and Garden Centre, where they enjoyed exploring the zen like gardens and ponds full of giant carp, only stopping for cake and milkshakes.

The Crowne Plaza’s family package includes a pass to The Australian Reptile Park, which is one of the Coast’s top spots for kids. Intimate enough to not tire out little ones but exciting and hands-on enough to keep them excited, it is an ideal wildlife attraction for younger kids. Here, after watching super-croc Elvis enjoy his lunch, we find plenty of hands-on opportunities to meet and greet the animals. There are koalas and kangaroos to be cuddled, lovely lizards to pet and snakes to stroke, not to mention the lumbering Hugo, a Galapagos Tortoise who we enjoy an slow-mo stroll with.

But for us, Terrigal itself is the main attraction. With its 4km stretch of beautiful beach and adjacent lagoon; a boutique and café-lined boulevard; stunning walks that lead up to the headland known as ‘The Skillion’ and the awesome offerings of the Crowne Plaza Terrigal - including the hotel’s Endota Spa where mum and dad can take turns over massages and signature treatments while the other plays with the kids in that gorgeous heated pool - make it tempting to simply stay put and relax.
