Holiday Parks

Looking for an action-packed holiday that all ages will enjoy? Rachel Allen tells why we don't have to look any further than one of Australia's fantastic holiday parks.

Holiday parks have evolved over recent years to provide an exciting experience that caters to the whole family, and there is a huge range of accommodation options on offer. With the endless activities available, from water parks and kids’ clubs for the littlies, to spas and bars for mum and dad, there’s no reason to travel beyond the park. Venturing further afield is optional!

BIG4 North Star Holiday Resort & Caravan Park
Hastings Point, Northern NSW
The biggest attraction at BIG4 North Star is Sammy’s Adventure Lagoon. Kids will love this amazing water playground which will keep them entertained for hours with water cannons, slides and Australia’s first water piano, as well as a huge dumping bucket that drenches the whole area every six minutes. If you can drag them away from the water, Neptune’s Castle is a huge indoor play area for kids of all ages and home to the kids’ club during school holidays. Rent cabins, lodges or villas sleeping up to 10, or powered and ensuite sites.

BIG4 Easts Beach Holiday Park
Kiama, NSW
There’s a great chance for kids to meet new friends through the activity program at Easts Beach. Activities run throughout school holidays and littlies can get involved in colouring competitions, craft sessions, jewellery making and the kids’ only disco on Sunday evenings. If you visit in the run up to Christmas you may even bump into Santa. There’s also a pool, jumping pillow and playground to keep even the most active kids amused. There are ensuite and powered sites, or stay in a bunkhouse, cabin or villa, which sleep up to six.

Mandalay Holiday Resort & Tourist Park
Broadwater, WA
Kids will adore the colourful new giant waterslide at Mandalay Holiday Resort. The slide is big enough for the kids to race each other, and mum and dad too! There are also three swimming pools, including an outdoor heated pool and an indoor pool with shallow beach. There are three adventure playgrounds – the kids will love the mega toy agility playground – as well as pool table, table tennis, games room and giant jumping pillow. There are powered sites, chalets, cabins, cottages and villas sleeping up to seven for those larger families. Adult bike hire is available – perfect for a 4km family ride to Busselton. Mum and dad might also like to know that Mandalay is in the heart of the Margaret River wine region.

Yarraby Holiday Park
Murray River, VIC
If your kids are little daredevils they’ll love speeding around on two wheels on the BMX bike track at Yarraby Holiday Park. For some slightly less adventurous sporting activity there is a mini golf course and an indoor and outdoor swimming pool. Take advantage of the park’s great location and go for a riverside walk, or let the kids blow off some steam in the playground or on the jumping pillow. There are powered and ensuite sites, and cabins, studios, units and villas which sleep up to nine.

Urunga Heads Holiday Park
Urunga, Mid-NSW Coast
Kids will be tearing up the road with Urunga Heads’ new pedal karts. There are single and double karts available so they can team up with mum and dad or go it alone. What better way to explore the park than on four wheels? Urunga Heads is part of North Coast Holiday Parks who focus on providing ‘outdoor, healthy, connected holidays’, making it the perfect place to reconnect with your family. Choose to stay in a cabin or villa, which sleep up to six, or choose a powered or unpowered campsite. The Urunga Heads Holiday Park is located on the edge of the Urunga Lagoon – a perfect place for safe swimming and canoeing – and the riverfront parkland means plenty of space to roam on foot or on wheels.

Big4 Treasure Island
Biggera Waters, Gold Coast
Being so close to the Gold Coast’s beaches and theme parks means endless fun for all the kids, not to mention the discounted tickets available through reception, but with so much to do on site, there is little need to go anywhere else. The new Kids Club room overlooking the giant bouncy pillow will please the crafty members of the family – there’s soap making, plaster painting, chocolate making and sand art – and there’s a great games room and Kidz Korner Activity Program. There are three pools to choose from or why not hire a buggy – the kids will love the freedom of cruising around the park’s quiet streets with their new friends.

BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort
Airlie Beach, QLD
At BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort even toddlers get some me time, which means mums and dads do too. Toddler Time runs every Tuesday for kids from 18 months to five years, and the age-specific activities mean that every little one will want to get involved with the play dough, craft and games while parents enjoy a massage or a swim. Kids’ workshops also run throughout the holidays, and there’s a large lagoon-style pool, mini-golf, and pedal cars. Choose from studios, villas, cottages or condos that sleep up to eight, or powered or ensuite campsites. Exploring the Great Barrier Reef on your doorstep is optional!

Melbourne BIG4 Holiday Park
Coburg, VIC
It can be tricky knowing what to do with the kids when it rains on holiday but Melbourne BIG4 Holiday Park has it covered with its Big Screen Movie Room, perfect for a rainy day, or just when all the activities on offer have tired the kids out. Children will also love the adventure playground, games room and pool, while mum and dad can relax in the spa. There are ensuite, powered and unpowered campsites, as well as a range of cabins, cottages, units and villas sleeping up to seven.

Ocean Beach Holiday Park
Umina , NSW
Your getaway can be as action packed as you like at Ocean Beach Holiday Park where kids can burn off energy on giant jumping pillows, at adventure playground and in the games room. The Kidz Korner holiday program gives them the chance to make new friends while doing what they love best, whether that be a game of soccer, a treasure hunt or tie-dying a t-shirt. The activity program is not designed to be a child-minding service – parents come along and join in the fun of crafty creations, sport and even dance lessons. The fun doesn’t stop after dark – there are talent shows, trivia nights, disco nights and bingo.
