Let the good times roll!

Holidays with Kids reader Tracy Sargeant and family were the lucky winners of our 2016 major prize from Apollo Motorhome Holidays and BIG4. Read about their trip!

Our daughter Chloe will always remember the first fish she ever caught – she caught it on the first holiday I ever won! When Holidays with Kids emailed me, I couldn’t quite believe it.

We hopped online to see what the Apollo Euro Deluxe motorhome looked like and my son, Jack, who is seven years old, started dancing around the room with excitement. We searched for BIG4 holiday resorts with ‘water park’ facilities, and BIG4 Sunshine at South West Rocks looked fantastic.

Getting ready was part of the fun. Bed linen, towels and kitchen essentials are all included in the motorhome rental but we also packed:

• Colouring books, scooters and favourite toys for the kids
• Snacks, fresh fruit and easy-to-cook ingredients
• Fishing gear for the whole family

I’ve been reading Holidays with Kids ever since my children were little, so it was nice to be heading off on our own holiday thanks to the magazine. We had seven days and it was a much-needed break for myself, my husband Dave, our son Jack and our daughter Chloe, who is five.

We picked up our motorhome from Apollo’s branch and spent about half an hour doing the paperwork and getting shown through the motorhome. They have helpful YouTube videos if you forget anything such as how to work the hot water shower, but it’s fairly easy to get set up and started on the journey.

My husband was the bold driver – he said it was easy to manage and enjoyed the whole experience. And the kids loved the ‘top bunk’ over the driver’s cabin – on our first night they were still excited and awake at 10pm! We found the motorhome a really comfortable ‘home on wheels’.

BIG4 Sunshine South West Rocks exceeded all our expectations. The kids had a brilliant time in the water play park – so did Dave! There was so much to do, from go karts to jumping pillows, a fantastic kids’ club (chocolate bingo, anyone?) and travel journals for the kids. We cooked up simple meals in the motorhome kitchen and used the park barbecue.

The kids made new friends, and got around on scooters and bikes. One night we headed down to South West Rocks Creek, and that’s when Chloe caught her first fish. It was too little to eat, so Chloe just gave it a pat and put it back in the water. A great memory for her and a great holiday for us all. Thank you Holidays with Kids, Apollo Motorhome Holidays and BIG4 Sunshine South West Rocks – this won’t be our last motorhome holiday.
