Day 1 | Sydney and Beijing
Fly to China’s capital city of Beijing. Upon arrival, get a private transfer to your hotel.
Day 2 | Beijing
Head off to the former imperial resort, the Summer Palace, to see the lavishly decorated temples, halls and the Long Corridor, and enjoy a fun dragon boat ride. Leisurely walk through Tiananmen Square and then the imperial palace of the Forbidden City to explore over 72 hectares of history, with access to detailed ceramics, art and opulent architecture. (B)
Day 3 | Great Wall of China
Walk the Great Wall of China at the Mutianyu section, take a cable car up to one of the many watchtowers to view the winding wall as it rises and falls over mountains into the distance, and then take an exciting toboggan all the way back down. Return to the city for a shopping expedition to the Silk Market. Enjoy an amazing acrobatic show as a finale. (B)
Day 4 | Beijing and Xian
Enjoy a rickshaw ride through the zigzagging alleyways called hutong to catch a glimpse of traditional Beijing life. Board a bullet train to Xian. Upon arrival, get a private transfer to your hotel. (B)
Day 5 | Xian
Ride a bicycle on the original City Wall before travelling to world-famous Terracotta Warriors and Horses, where you will see hundreds of individually crafted clay soldiers standing on guard, giving you a greater sense of their detailed craftsmanship. This evening, you’ll discover the street food of the Muslim Quarter’s bazaar-like streets, where steaming stalls line the paths. You’ll see and smell everything from lamb kebabs to persimmon fruit pies and handmade noodles. (B)
Day 6 | Chengdu
Board a bullet train to Chengdu. Visit the ancient street of Jinli, where you’ll find dozens of food, handicrafts and souvenirs vendors lining a network of alleys. Enjoy the famous Sichuan hot pot while you are entertained by the traditional folk art of Changing Face at your dinner table. (B/D)
Day 7 | Chengdu
View adorable pandas up close at The Giant Panda Breeding and Research Base, home to over 60 pandas of all ages, and learn all about panda behaviour and protection. Enjoy the river view from Wangjiang Pavilion, the four-tiered wooden tower built in 1889, stroll through tranquil bamboo groves, relax with a jasmine tea in a traditional teahouse and observe local people playing a game of mahjong at Wangjiang Park. Fly to Shanghai. (B)
Day 8 | Shanghai
Take a hop-on, hop-off bus to explore Shanghai on your own (English audio commentary is provided). Enjoy an evening river cruise to see the beautiful city lights. (B)
Day 9 | Shanghai
Enjoy free time to explore the city before your transfer to the airport for the flight back home. (B)
Day 10 | Arrive Australia
Arrive in the early morning.
