In the scenic Ötztal Valley, winter rules from October through May amid breathtaking Alpine landscapes. Due to its high-altitude location, snow is guaranteed throughout the season. Three ski mountains higher than 3000 metres make Sölden home to Austria’s biggest glacier skiing area and every year, the Rettenbach Glacier hosts the first great winter event of the new season: the Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup Opening. Last season Sölden and the neighbouring Obergurgl-Hochgurgl joined forces and they now offer Skipasses valid in both ski areas, boasting incredible 254 kilometres of combined slopes.
The wide and perfectly groomed slopes are ideal for all difficulty levels. Individual kids’ skiing lessons, a ski kindergarten and the snow park and fun slope guarantee fun for the whole family. To take a break, 33 quaint ski huts and mountain inns are spread all over the ski area, serving mouth-watering delights and typical Tirolean specialties.
After a long day on the slopes, the Aqua Dome in Längenfeld is the perfect place to unwind in thermal spas and saunas with separate water and spa areas for families.
Even James Bond could not resist coming to Sölden to chase villains across the snow and ice. 007 Elements, a James Bond cinematic installation due to open this winter, gives insight into the filming activities for the movie Spectre.
Where to stay? The Hotel and Spa AQUA DOME in Längenfeld, the heart of the Ötztal Valley, is the perfect starting point to explore the surrounding slopes and recharge after a skiing day. For those who want to be closer to the slopes, the family-friendly hotel DAS CENTRAL – ALPINE. LUXURY. LIFE in Sölden offers professional childcare, an indoor swimming pool and ski hire.
