Best family ski resort in Australia

This Snowy Mountains resort has plenty to offer both on and off the slopes. Home to Australia’s longest runs, a variety of terrain, big vertical and a buzzing village – along with year-round events – Thredbo is packed with excitement for the whole family. Friday Flat is a wonderful place for kids to learn in a safe environment, and when you need a break off the snow, head for the heated indoor pool at the Leisure Centre.

2Mt Buller

With the largest lift network in Victoria, Mt Buller has 22 lifts serving the varied terrain. This season will see the brand-new six-seater Bourke Street Express chairlift whisk skiers and riders up from the village, making it quicker and easier to access the creamy terrain up top. In other big news, Mt Buller is now part of the Ikon Pass and the Mountain Collective!

3Falls Creek

Falls Creek has 450 hectares of skiable terrain making it the largest of any resort in Victoria. Off the slopes, there is also a multitude of activities to keep kids happy, including tobogganing, tubing and heading out with a parent on an amazing sunset snowmobile tour. Big news this year is that Falls Creek is part of the Vail Resorts stable, accessible on the Epic Australia Pass.

With four ski areas and 1,245 hectares of skiable terrain, Perisher is the largest ski resort in Australia. As much as 78% of Perisher’s skiable terrain is aimed at intermediate and advanced skiers, with a longest downhill run of 3 kilometres and over 100 kilometres of cross-country trails, attracting seasoned freestyle skiers from across the country. This season will see the arrival of the new $4.2 million Leichhardt Quad Chairlift, making access to the powder stashes of Perisher’s Centre Valley as easy as pie.

Nestled amid the Victorian Alps, Australia’s highest alpine village boasts breathtaking views and 320 hectares of ski terrain. Unlike most ski resorts, Hotham’s village sits on top of the mountain rather than in the valley below. Thirteen chairlifts, 3 terrain parks and popular night skiing activities make this resort perfect for advanced skiers, while the high levels of snowfall and legendary steeps attracts freestyle riders. It’s not all thrills, though, with the excellent Big D area for kids. Off the slopes, 18 restaurants and a luxury day spa ensures that there is something for everyone to enjoy.
