1Cardrona Alpine Resort

Situated between Queenstown and Wanaka, Cardrona has slopes for all levels, from first-timers to professional athletes, and the entire family will be catered for. Ski Kindy offers kids aged two to five the opportunity to play in the snow and learn to ski while Kids’ Club teaches kids between five and 14 to ski and snowboard. Cardrona’s new ‘chondola’ was a big hit last season.

With its beautiful basins providing incredible ski and snowboard terrain, Treble Cone is a snowy paradise that will have you whooping with joy. TC has expanded and improved its terrain for beginners, and there is a terrain park just for kids. This season a free mountain shuttle will run from the base and a free return service from Wanaka if you book lessons. Group lessons have been capped at five so everyone learns more quickly.

With its long snow season often lasting from June to September, Coronet Peak offers rollercoaster terrain with slopes for all ages and levels as well as childcare options for tiny tots. Kids aged five and under ski for free and make regular appearances on the slopes. During the second half of the week, the slopes are lit up so the family can enjoy skiing and snowboarding at night.

Only a 90-minute drive from Christchurch is Mt Hutt. Offering kids’ clubs and activities for children aged three months - 17 years, variety-filled eateries and views that will leave guests breathless - a definite family ski hot-spot.

The Remarkables boasts three ski terrains suitable for all levels accompanied by lessons for both kids and adults alike. Facilities like priority drop off for families and shuttles to the base building are available and easily accessible.

For a mixture of off- and on-ski fun, Mt Ruapehu has it all. With chairlift passes for all ages that give access to mountain scenery of volcanoes and waterfalls, families can sightsee together or for leisure, beginners and little ones, sledding is a ski alternative.
