Tūroa is the wild, playful, mighty ski area situated on the southwestern slopes of Mt Ruapehu in New Zealand’s North Island. This majestic mountain is the central figure in the stunning Tongariro National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Area recognised for its cultural and environmental significance.

Tūroa’s terrain is renowned for its natural bowls, kickers and wide open slopes, making for an epic experience for every style of skier or rider. Best of all, its 722 metres of vertical provides long, thigh-burning four kilometre runs!

KIDS SKI SCHOOL

Kids’ all day lessons are the best way to get kids excited for the snow. They run for the whole day with the same group and instructor so the kids can make new friends while learning heaps. A yummy lunch is also included.

Kids will spend a super fun five days on the slopes hanging with their own instructor and crew of snow buddies. Learn to ski is for ages four to 12 and intro to race and freeride (level five and six) is for ages four to 17.

Ohakune township, at the base of the Ohakune Mountain Road, has a huge range of self contained accommodation options for families. Grab a chalet rental or stay in one of the many lodges with communal lounges for a social and comfortable stay. There are three on-mountain cafes provide plenty of variety when you’re looking to refuel.

Alpine Café & Bar

Enjoy quick and easy cafeteria style food, barista made coffee and fresh juice for a quick and yummy bite on the run. Or head upstairs for fresh baked cakes and pastries, delicious cooked breakfasts and an amazing lunch menu.

Snowflake Café

The locals’ best kept secret, Snowflake has the best burgers in town. Enjoy stunning views from the deck and have lunch with the whole family. Snowflake can be accessed with a short sightseeing chairlift ride.

Giant Café

This cosy and rustic hangout is the highest cafe in the ski area. Grab coffee with a view or a quick lunch before heading back onto the slopes. The Giant is the best spot for an afternoon beer or wine.
