Overlooking picturesque Lake Burley Griffin, the National Library of Australia is one of Canberra's great landmarks. With over seven million items, the classical building houses a diverse collection accessible to the public.
It is many libraries in one — you can visit the Main Reading, Manuscript, Asian, Pictorial, Maps or Newspaper rooms to view the material that you need. The Library holds regular exhibitions highlighting items from its collection in the Exhibition Gallery located on the ground floor. Seminars, public lectures, and monthly film screenings are also part of an active and engaging events program.
Situated in the marble foyer, at the entrance of the building, is a licensed café with wonderful views over the lake and a comprehensive bookshop offering an excellent selection of books by Australian authors. |
