Visiting Broome with Children

Travelling with children offers its own challenges and rewards.  There are many options for people travelling with children to Broome.

Camel ridesVisit the Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Park at feeding time and watch your children’s amazed faces as they come face to face (but not too close!) to these ancient beasts.

Dinosaurs fascinate almost every child and there are many trails to explore.  The famous 120 million-year-old footprints at Gantheaume Point can only be seen on very low tides but others on Roebuck Bay can be seen when you take a flight on the Broome Hovercraft.

Take a ride on the Pearl Town Bus Service - kids ride free!

Take advantage of the flat roads and beautiful weather and hire a bike to explore the town and the Cable Beach area. Child-seats and helmets can be hired from Broome Cycles.

Morning, afternoon and sunset camel rides are very popular amongst families; it’s the classic Cable Beach experience.

Whilst a full day reef fishing might be a bit much for your child, Dampier Creek Boat Tours offer a three-hour creek fishing alternative.

Do your children love the ocean?  Many kids, depending on their age, enjoy sea-kayaking.  It’s a fantastic way to view some of the sea life around Broome.  The surprisingly simple sailing experience of Windrider Sea Safaris lets your child feel the exhilaration of the wind through their hair as they master the seas.

Do your kids feel the need for speed?  Wild Side Rides offer a variety of tours around town on the back of a Harley Davidson trike.

Children at BroomeThe Bureau of Meteorology offer one-hour tours, by appointment, informing people of the interesting weather patterns around Broome.  You may even witness a data-collecting balloon being launched.

Watch the night skies on Astro Tours and have the movements of the stars and planets explained in an easy to understand way.

Make use of the public playgrounds at Town Beach or paddle in the calm waters of Roebuck Bay.

Entertain the kids with a game of mini-golf at Palm Grove Caravan Park.

Let the kids be entertained by the bustle, buskers and beautiful sights and smells of Broome’s weekend and Staircase to the Moon markets.

Follow the signposted self-guided cultural walks through the dune system of Cable Beach.  BYO water, hats, sunscreen and sunglasses and rest up in the specially made shade shelters as you read the information plaques.

Modern Dreamtime Dancers have rehearsals most days at St. Mary’s College around 3pm.  Call them to see if the rehearsals are open to the public on (08) 9192 3938.

Manbana aquaculture hatchery and discovery centre is where you can experience the unique role the sea and inland waterways have played in the life and history of the Kimberley people.  A series of fantastic aquariums and touch tanks allow you to see up close some of the many local aquatic species.
