From winged insects that fly freely in the sky to the larvae that hide beneath the ground, Entopia by Penang Butterfly Farm offers sanctuary for the planet’s small denizens.
Inviting little ones on a journey to discover the hidden secrets of the natural world, Entopia houses two unique environments: The Natureland and The Cocoon. In The Natureland, kids will be thrilled by the recreated natural habitat of its resident invertebrates and reptiles. As the largest butterfly garden in Malaysia, there are some 15,000 free-flying butterflies at any one time here, consisting up to 60 different species. You’ll wander past waterfalls, ponds and caves in this impressive ecological space.
Afterwards, kids will be excited to uncover the inner workings of all they’ve seen, which is why The Cocoon has two floors dedicated to learning exhibitions and educational activities. Its interactive ‘edu-stations’ will teach little ones all about the amazing critters they’ve seen, guided by an activity leader ready to facilitate fun, hands-on learning activities. Scheduled learning activities are included in the entry, so be sure to check the session times when you arrive.
By the time you’ve made it through the entire exhibition, you may have observed more than 150 different animal species and are sure to be ready for a bite. At Tapestree, kids can even dine with the butterflies, accompanied by Asian and Western cuisines with a selection of snacks and cold drinks. Also be sure to make time to appreciate the incredible green-wall, which made it into the Malaysia Book of Records in 2017 as the country’s largest. Covering over 930 square metres of wall space, the wall is home to some 88,000 plants.
Entopia is open daily from 9.00am to 6.00pm with its last admission/ticket sale at 5.00pm. Tickets are priced at RM60 for Adult (13 years old and over) and RM40 for Child (four to 12 years old), or you can sign up as a Friends of Entopia member to enjoy unlimited entries in a year.
