North to South with Interislander

Interislander

The journey on the Interislander is one of the classic ferry journeys in the world.

New Zealand is a perfect family destination – it’s a short flight, it’s ideal for hiring a car or campervan and driving around, and there are a plethora of attractions to see and places to go.

If your holiday includes both the North and South islands, the Interislander ferry is the ideal way to go. The ferry links Wellington in the North Island with Picton in the South Island, with the 92 km journey taking just three hours.

The scenery is remarkable, with the cruise out of Wellington Harbour taking you past waterfront mansions and the seal colony at Red Rocks. Then it’s into the Cook Strait and through the Marlborough Sounds where there is plenty to see from sheltered bays to marine birds and maybe a pod of dolphins if you’re lucky. The journey finishes at Picton, close to the very popular Marlborough wine region and the attractions of Nelson.Interislander

Onboard, once the kids have finished exploring the observation deck, there is plenty to keep them entertained inside, especially on the Interislander’s newest ferry, Kaitaki. There’s a TV lounge, indoor playgrounds, video games and cinemas, and when the fun and games give way to rumbling stomachs, there are lots of hearty food options.

Onboard cafes offer fresh coffee and tea, paninis, salads and home baking while Kaitaki also has a fresh food court, providing mouth-watering snacks, sandwiches and hot meals including pizza, pasta and curry.

Wash it all down with a glass of New Zealand’s finest wine from the Marlborough and Martinborough regions while you soak up the 180-degree views in the bar and atrium and enjoy live entertainment.

The Interislander is a great way to travel, for all ages and stages, family or leisure, business or commercial and it’s so easy if you’re travelling by car. Simply drive it on, enjoy the activities and comfort of the ship then drive off at the other end.
