1 BIG4 Inverloch Holiday Park

Climbing to the top this year, this BIG4 park on Anderson Inlet is close to two of our favourite tourist attractions - Phillip Island and Wilsons Promontory. Only about a 90-minute car ride from Melbourne, this Inverloch Holiday Park suits a wide range of family travellers, from those seeking a secluded cabin to caravanners wanting a simple site to set up. If you’re up for a traditional adventure with a twist, check out the eco glamping tents. Sleeping up to six people, these ultra-luxe tents are fitted out with all the usual facilities of a cabin, including bedding, a bathroom, a fully-stocked kitchenette, and an outdoor entertainment area with a barbecue. There is even air conditioning and Wi-Fi. Be sure to spend a lot of time at the indoor heated pool and the indoor splash park – they’re not to be missed.

2 BIG4 Beacon Resort

=3 BIG4 Ballarat Goldfields Holiday Park

This Queenscliff holiday park has thought of everyone, with one-, two- and three-bedroom villas and motel rooms, as well as powered caravan and camping sites with private ensuites. Only a 90-minute drive from Melbourne, one of the biggest draw cards to BIG4 Beacon Resort is its proximity to Port Phillip Bay, Fort Queenscliff and the Great Ocean Road. There are also multiple activities and facilities that will keep families busy in resort. Drop the little ones off at the year-round (and free) supervised kids’ activity program, and play a round of golf at one of the numerous sand belt or links courses. Better yet, families can spend the day at the 12.5-metre heated indoor pool and spa, and the indoor adventure playground, before relaxing with a treatment at the on-site Mud Day Spa (open seven days a week).

Located within walking distance to some of Ballarat’s prime gold rush relics (think family-favourite Sovereign Hill), BIG4 Ballarat Goldfields Holiday Park attracts attention with its modern facilities. A splash around the solar-heated swimming pool or a relaxation session in the indoor heated spa can never go amiss. The kids, on the other hand, will make a beeline for the jumping pillow, giant checkers board, go karts, games room, adventure playground and half-size tennis court. For parents with little ones, the Tiny Tots Indoor Playground has undergone a complete overhaul and now has new equipment, making play time even more exciting. Stay in a studio cabin, or a one-, two- or three-bedroom villa, or park your caravan on the ensuite and powered sites, before exploring all that this holiday park has to offer.

=3 BIG4 Bellarine Holiday Park

Marcus Hill

4 RACV Cobram Resort

This park is so popular that you would never guess that it’s one of the newest making our top 10 awards. Sports-loving families will be in their element here, with a BMX track, football and soccer facilities, a 1.2-kilometre walking track and a tennis court. Other great additions include an indoor water complex, a new fitness centre, a cinema, flying fox, playground and an indoor play room for toddlers. Accommodation includes spacious units and campsites, too. Although you’ll no doubt be prioritising the on-site activities at BIG4 Bellarine, don’t forget to explore the towns of Point Lonsdale, Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads and Drysdale, which are home to some of Victoria’s best beaches, eateries and wineries.

An easy three-hour drive from Melbourne, this holiday park is located on the Murray River, one of Australia’s most famous fishing locations. A stay at RACV Cobram Resort will bring back fond childhood memories and make the same ones with your kids. Hire a bike and explore the abundance of paths and trails surrounding the park and enjoy a picnic lunch made by the Poolside Cafe, or maybe you’d rather give the pedal-powered go-karts a try. Spend the afternoon relaxing on sun-lounges on the pool deck while the kids play in the mushroom waterfall and rock water fountain in the lagoon-shaped pool. When the kids are tired out from a full day of fun, head back to your tent or self-contained apartment or cabin with views of the lake, park or garden.
