Some travellers may even face fines of up to $20,000 if court proceedings are instigated. To avoid any problems, don't ignore the road signs advising you to either eat or get rid of any fruit before entering a Fruit Fly Exclusion Zone (FFEZ).
Carrying fresh fruit into a FFEZ gives fruit fly the chance to infest the valuable production areas of NSW, Victoria and SA.
All types of maturing fruit as well as some vegetable such as tomatoes, capsicum and avocados are host for fruit fly.
