Raising money for childrens' charities in India

Early in 2006 a group of enthusiastic parents with children at the International School of Hyderabad, kicked off a project to write a childrens travel guide to India, in order to raise money for children’s charities in India. After a lot of hard work, the travel guide was published in November 2006.

The travel guide, called Kids’ Travel and Activity Guide to India, is unique. It aims to entertain and educate children as they travel around the major destinations in the country. The book has been cleverly written and is beautifully illustrated.

A success story, 1000 copies have been sold to date and lots of enthusiastic feedback has been received. Here are some of the positive comments received about the book:

“First of all, I wanted to tell you that I think the book is amazing.” – Parent from India

“Congratulations – it looks fabulous! Photos and quality are wonderful – well done.” – Parent from Australia

"Details like a just-right point size, clean typeface, neat page design with an appropriate use of white space are taken into account, making Kids’ Travel and Activity Guide to India a publication you'd be proud to display on your bookcase - and it would be well-thumbed indeed." - Review from Expat Insider magazine

“Our elementary school principal is very excited about the book particularly for grades 3 and 4.” - American Embassy School, New Delhi

“The book is terrific.” – IOS Relocations

“On glancing through the [guide] I find it to be a very useful book and [I] am certain children will find it very interesting…I would like to congratulate you and your colleagues on this novel method of contributing to the less fortunate.” - Consulate General of the USA, Chennai

After covering costs, the sale proceeds are donated to bona fides children’s charities in India. Donations have already been made to some village schools in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
