Traveling with children offers its own challengers and rewards. There are many options for those people traveling with children to Broome.
· Visit the Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Park at feeding time and watch your children’s amazed faces as they come face to face (but not too close!) to these ancient beasts.
· Dinosaurs fascinate almost every child and there are many trails to explore. The famous 120 million-year-old footprints at Gantheaume Point can only be seen on very low tides. Please contact the Broome Visitor Centre for tide times. Others on Roebuck Bay can be seen when you take a fight on the Broome Hovercraft. .
· Take advantage of the flat roads and beautiful weather and hire a bike to explore the town and the Cable Beach area. Child seats and helmets can be hired from Broome Cycles.
· Morning, afternoon and sunset camel rides are very popular amongst families; it’s the classic Cable Beach experience.
· Whilst full day reef fishing might be a bit much for your child, West Kimberley Fishing Tours offer a three-hour creek fishing alternative.
· Do your children love the ocean? Many kids, depending on their age, enjoy sea kayaking. It’s a fantastic way to view some of the sea life around Broome.
· If your kids feel the need for speed then Broome Trike Tours offer a variety of tours around town on the back of a Harley Davidson Trike.
· The Bureau of Meteorology offer one-hour tours, by appointment, informing people of the interesting weather patterns around Broome. You may even witness a data-collecting balloon being launched.
· Watch the night skies on Astro Tours and have the movements of the stars and planets explained in an easy to understand way.
· Make use of the public playgrounds at Town Beach or Cable Beach or paddle in the calm waters of Roebuck Bay or a surf at Cable Beach.
· Entertain the kids with a game of mini-golf at Palm Grove Caravan Park.
· Let the kids be entertained by the bustle, buskers and beautiful sights and smells of Broome’s Courthouse (Sat & Sun) and Staircase to the Moon markets.
· Follow the sign posted self-guided cultural walks through Minyirr Park, the dune system of Cable Beach. BYO water, hats, sunscreen and sunglasses and rest up in the specially made shade shelters as you read the information plaques.
· Manbana Aquaculture and Discovery Tours, where you can experience the unique role the sea and inland waterways have played in the life and history of the Kimberley people. A series of fantastic aquariums and touch tanks allow you to see up close some of the many local aquatic species.
· The Shell House. A collection of more than 5000 shells, preserved fish, crustaceans and fossils. Entry is free.
· Visit Malcolm Douglas new WILDNERNESS Park. Only 18km’s out of Broome, this park has a variety of animals. Adults $30, Children $20 Family passes $80. Open Fri, Sat & Sun between 2pm – 5pm. Crocodile feeding time is 3pm.
· Broome Historical Society Museum. One of the best regional museums in Australia features a display on pearling, shells and a large collection of photographs and literature that piece together the fascinating history of Broome.
· The Broome Library hosts a variety of literary events, including “Meet the Author” evenings, book launches and “Children’s Book Week: workshops. Children’s Story Time sessions for ages 3-5 years are held on Tuesday mornings at 10.30am during school terms.
· The Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre is open all year round and features a unique blend of wet and dry facilities and activities. Facilities include; Lap pool, Lagoon pool, spa area, squash courts, tennis courts, netball/basketball courts, crèche/multi purpose room, café, first aid posts and a skate park.
· Broome Jetboat offers 45 minute thrill rides at $75p/p. With twists, spins and nose dives this boat ride will be a thrill for all ages!!! (Depending on the age of the child)
