.JPG) WHAT: The Million Paws Walk is the RSPCA’s major national fundraiser. Every year in May over 60,000 people and 25,000 dogs hit the pavement to raise much needed funds for the RSPCA. It’s a fun day out for the whole family and helps the RSPCA extend a helping paw to animals in need.

WHY: Last year the number of animals cared for by the RSPCA in Australia reached a 15 year high and cruelty complaints jumped by more than 15%. That’s 161,994 dogs, cats, horses, goats, pigs, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, turtles, chickens, birds, sheep, kangaroos, possums, wombats , koalas (just to name a few!) seeking refuge in our shelters and 49,494 complaints of cruelty and neglect investigated by our inspectors. 98% of the RSPCA’s national funding comes from public donations and fundraisers like the Million Paws Walk. That’s why your support is so important.
HOW: From March you can register online at www.millionpawswalk.com.au. You can also start a fundraising page for your pooch and get your friends and family behind you! There are great prizes to be won.
WHAT’S NEW: Our feline friends shouldn’t miss out on all the fun so for the first-time we have created the Million Purrs Walk, an online, virtual walk designed with your cat in mind! Visit www.millionpurrswalk.com.au to register your cat. (N.B. this website won’t be live until March 2009). The more funds your cat raises, the more fun she’ll have – all without leaving the house or getting her paws dirty! As a former resident of the RSPCA, Wesley is the purrrrfect ambassador for our first Million Purrs Walk. The RSPCA cared for 69,034 cats just like Wesley last year. With your support we can find new homes for as many Wesleys as possible.
