In its heyday, Bungaree was like a small village with its beautiful sandstone woolshed, shearers quarters, stable yard, station store, manager's house, staff cottages and even the district council chambers and a church.
Today it is still one of Australia's premier merino studs and many of the buildings have been converted into comfortable accommodation. Guests can participate in the daily farm activities, use the swimming pool and the professional gymnasium or simply sit around a bon fire and enjoy a glass of local wine or port from one of the 24 wineries in the Clare Valley district. There are also bush walking trails where fallow deer and kangaroos are to be seen in the hills.
Your hosts, the Hawker family and staff, invite you to experience the magic of country life in the Clare Valley, be it through a family holiday, a conference or a school camp.
We have accommodation for everyone - from the renovated stallion stable for a couple to the manager's house for a group of friends or the budget alternative in the stable yard.
All our cottages and the stables have very efficient wood burning slow combustion fires and electric blankets for cold winter nights and ceiling fans for summer. Accommodation is complete with bedding, towels and breakfast provisions. Our cottages range in size from one to four bedrooms and have one to three bathrooms.
However, Bungaree offers more than just accommodation in a tranquil environment. The property and the heritage listed buildings remain largely unchanged since the horse and buggy days and, as a result, Bungaree provides a better insight into the pastoral history of the 19th century than a museum could ever do.
The Hawker family and staff are waiting to show you life in the country.
